Nick Saban: Jaylen Waddle ‘will probably be a game day decision’

Alabama coach Nick Saban said on Thursday that wide receiver Jaylen Waddle will be a “game day decision” for the national championship game against Ohio State.

“He’s been able to practice a little,” said Saban. “The status of the game is still relatively up in the air.”

Waddle returned to training on Tuesday after losing more than two months to an ankle injury. Teammates on Wednesday said Waddle “looked good” on the field on the first day back.

“I have no crystal ball to know,” Saban said on Thursday of the Waddle situation. “The problem with injuries is when a guy practices, how does he respond to the workload? Sometimes, if a guy trains one day and gets sore the next, you can’t practice the next day, so keep trying to increase your workload so he can play.

“So, this is a work in progress now. So you can’t really predict where it might be. Other guys seem to get stronger as they practice, they get a little bit better. So, this is something that we are trying to assess, but not something that we can make any predictions about right now. “
