South Carolina football will have a big draw in 2021.
South Carolina fought in the passing game for most of last season, getting very little production from anyone but Shi Smith. Smith announced his intention to enter the NFL draft, which means that more than a third of Gamecock’s production in the pass game will be eliminated next year.
Smith’s defeat hurts, as he was the most experienced and talented receiver on the list, but the Gamecocks will receive a big boost after a major pass receiver’s decision for the 2021 season.
The transfer tight end announced that it will return to Columbia next year, after being South Carolina’s second largest receiver in the 2020 season. Muse recorded 425 yards and a touchdown, and was the only other pass receiver on the team to record more 160 receiving yards. He averaged 14.2 meters per catch in 30 receptions, experiencing his best year in a Gamecock uniform.
This is a major achievement for the South Carolina technical team, as Muse will be the only player who returns with more than 1,000 receiving yards. Before joining the squad in Columbia, Muse spent two seasons at William & Mary, where he recorded 34 catches for 498 yards, and won awards at all conferences as a second year. In South Carolina, he picked up 47 receptions in 583 yards.
Muse was Luke Doty’s favorite target late last year. He recorded season records at receptions at each of Doty’s appearances, getting six catches against Missouri, and then with a performance of 8 catches and 131 yards in his final fight against Georgia.
Chemistry will be something to build on in the 2021 season and should give your new defender a familiar target in a reception room that will look very different. Muse will be a focal point in Mike Bobo’s offensive system and may be in line for a year.
