UPDATED with video: Nick Jonas, Kate McKinnon, Ego Nwodim and others SNL cast members prove that morbid murder shows and documentaries are good enough to inspire a pop song.
“Murder program, murder program / I’m going to watch a murder program / Netflix, Showtime, HBO and Dateline / I’m going to watch a murder program,” sang the women on Saturday night.
Cast members paid tribute to a number of titles featured on streaming and premium platforms, including Mommy dead and dear and Crime scene: the disappearance at the Hotel Cecil.
Chloe Fineman, Melissa Villasenor and their other stars say they can easily watch dark programs to take care of themselves while doing their chores. She sings about watching a series about “murders in the Bahamans while folding pajamas”, while McKinnon reflects on watching a series of crimes while facing his mother.
From relaxing clothes in their living rooms to red latex clothes on a red stage, the cast members make the disturbing deaths look pleasant and fun.
But while the girls are enjoying their “time for me” murder, Jonas steps in to remind them that there are more murder mysteries.
“You’ve heard of worship programs, worship programs,” he sings. “Sexual cults, death cults.”
