NGO, CenterPoint Energy asks customers to conserve energy

How it can affect your bill

The NGO informed all of its customers on Sunday that natural gas prices are rising. This, combined with historical usage fees, can ultimately impact customer accounts immediately and for a long period of time.

The dealership, Shortridge pointed out, is not allowed to profit from the gas it sells to its customers.

However, the price paid for fuel over an average period of time is passed on to customers through periodic tariff adjustments that are reviewed and authorized by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission Public Utility Division. These authorizations are carried out as part of fee cases moved by the concessionaires that are approved by commissioners elected each year or so.

In recent years, fuel cost adjustments have typically been sought by utilities on a half-yearly basis, as natural gas prices have been relatively stable.

But after an event like this in 2000, natural gas utilities were looking to adjust their fuel costs monthly until markets stabilized, an agency spokesman said on Sunday.
