After a recent report that the Jaguars were considering Urban Meyer as a candidate for head coach, the Chargers could join them on that list.
Bruce Feldman of Atlético reports that he heard that the Chargers “also have an interest in Urban Meyer for his position as head coach”.
Los Angeles’ search for a new coach is underway after the team fired Anthony Lynn on Monday after his 7–9 season.
On Saturday, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Jacksonville had shown an interest in Meyer, who was reportedly forming a team and hoping to get the job of head coach. The report came two days before the Jaguars fired coach Doug Marrone, and no updates on Meyer’s status with the team since then.
Meyer stepped down as Ohio State coach in 2018 after the Buckeyes won Washington over the Rose Bowl. In his seven seasons in Columbus, he led the program to a national championship and three Big Ten titles, amassing a record 82-9.
Before being hired by Ohio State, Meyer took Florida to two national championships. He retired after the 2009 season and spent a season as an ESPN analyst before returning to coaching.
Since his retirement in 2018, Meyer has worked as a college football analyst for FOX.
