NFL rumors: 49ers bringing back QB Josh Rosen for the 2021 season

As the QB carousel continues, it appears that the 49ers liked what they saw from one of their young signalers this season.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported on Sunday morning that the 49ers are bringing Josh Rosen back for the next season. Rosen was a free agent with exclusive rights, which means that it was up to 49ers to offer him a contract. It looks like they’re going to do that.

The 49ers signed Rosen for a one-year contract on December 23, 2020. He has not played a game for the 49ers this season.

Rosen, 23, was the Arizona Cardinals’ tenth choice in the 2018 NFL Draft. He hasn’t participated in any games since October 13, 2019.

The UCLA product gave 11 touchdowns and was intercepted 14 times while completing just 55.2% of his passes as a novice. The Cardinals then negotiated him with the Miami Dolphins after his debut year for a second round choice and a fifth round choice in 2020. He played six games for the Dolphins, ending with a TD and five interceptions.

Although he did not play with the 49ers at the end of the season, they clearly liked what they saw enough to bring him back to the QB room in 2021.
