New Texans GM Nick Caserio has list of candidates for coach

Now that Nick Caserio has been appointed general manager of the Texans, he will start his own interview process to hire a new coach next week. Monday is his first employee in his new job.

Caserio has a list of candidates he wants to interview because he will basically hire the head coach. Caserio will interview candidates and make his recommendation to owner Cal McNair, who will approve.

Caserio did not rule out candidates.

After being introduced to the media on Friday, Caserio met with several of Texas’ assistant coaches. He wanted to introduce himself to them and no one was interviewed for the position of chief technician.

Once the new coach is hired, he will begin the process of interviewing Texan technical assistants and candidates for positions on his team.

There is a good chance that interim coach Romeo Crennel will take a position on the team if the new head coach wants to keep him. Crennel said this week that he would agree to stay with the team if he and the new coach were philosophically aligned and agreed on the responsibilities he would have under the new regime.

Crennel knows Caserio well. They were part of three Super Bowl winners with the Patriots.
