On Friday, it was announced that Young people and the restless star Sasha Calle was cast as Supergirl in the next The Flash director Andy Muschietti’s film. The announcement came in the form of a video of the call where Muschietti told Calle that she got the role with Muschietti asking Calle if she could fly. Melissa Benoist, who currently plays Supergirl on the CW’s Arrowverse, soon welcomed Calle to DC Universe in a sweet post on Instagram Story, noting that “the world needs as many Supergirls as it can”. Calle is now responding to Benoist’s welcome.
In his response, Calle expressed how much Benoist’s welcome means to her, as she and her brother watched each episode of Supergirl.
Calle is the latest actress to play the iconic superhero and will be the first Latina to take on the role. Muschietti said Deadline that he auditioned over 400 actresses for the role before finally finding Calle, who he said was “destined” for the role.
“I attended more than four hundred auditions,” said Muschietti. “The talent pool was really incredible and it was very difficult to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play that role.”
Production of the film is scheduled to begin in April. Barbara Muschietti, the film’s producer and director’s sister, recently shared an Instagram post about the film’s sets being built at one of Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden, writing “The fun is in the countryside.”
The Flash The film will star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and will also feature appearances by Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, with each actor playing their respective versions of Batman with Muschietti recounting previously. Vanity Fair that Affleck’s character is the “baseline” before going to the bigger story.
“He is the baseline. He is part of that state unchanged before we jump into Barry’s adventure. There is a familiarity there,” said Muschietti. “This film is a kind of hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we have seen before are valid. It is inclusive in the sense that it is saying everything you have seen exists, and everything you’ll see exists, in the same unified multiverse. “
The Flash is scheduled to open in theaters on November 4, 2022.
