A New Mexico cattle rancher told America’s Newsroom on Friday that his property is under siege in the midst of the border crisis.
Russell Johnson mentioned that since President Biden stopped construction on January 20, 2021, the unfinished border wall has left a gap of almost a kilometer in length, allowing migrants to easily cross from Mexico to the United States.
“…[L]living here on the border, you can’t live in fear, “said Johnson.” …[T]The way everything is going today with the new policies proposed by this government is making it very difficult and … insecure in our area ”.

The farmer went on to say that because the sheriff’s department is “very limited”, New Mexico residents are heavily dependent on the Border Patrol and its resources.
Johnson expressed that there is an influx of illegal activities as migrants continue to cross the border, causing pedestrian traffic to increase significantly on his property.
“We have a three-quarter mile gap … and they are exploiting that, we have no unaccompanied minors coming to our area. What we have is a criminal element,” said the New Mexico cattle rancher.
Johnson said his neighbor had the Border Patrol arrest a group of 12 people wearing camouflage and ski masks.
Although Johnson did not see drug activity firsthand, the Border Patrol “picked up traces” of a group of more than 50 people who illegally crossed the gates last Saturday. Only 30 migrants were captured, leaving at least 20 others on the loose.
The livestock farmer said that one of his biggest concerns is that when the weather gets warmer, it will be easier for migrants to travel illegally. Johnson mentioned that this will greatly affect his business, the safety of his family and the people of this country.
“People don’t realize that this is not just a frontier problem. It affects everyone, ”said Johnson.
The New Mexico cattle rancher said he is in contact with Congresswoman Yvette Herrell, RN.M., who is responding to her concerns and tried to help Johnson with the illegal border crossings.

Johnson said New Mexico governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is not “aware” of the terrible border crisis.
“… if the federal government doesn’t take care of this issue, the state government will, and that will push all traffic to New Mexico,” said Johnson.
