New leaked AirPods 3 photos show universal fit without interchangeable ear tips

The audio technology news site 52audio shared some new photos of Apple’s third-generation AirPods. These have leaked like crazy in recent weeks, but today’s photos are the clearest so far. Apple’s third generation AirPods are clearly inspired by the AirPods Pro with shorter rods, a shorter charging case and rearranged sensors.

One thing that has been debated is whether or not these new AirPods will have interchangeable ear tips. Today’s photos make it clear that they will not and will instead have a universal fit similar to that of the current generation AirPods.

The third generation AirPods have a unique blend of the original AirPods design and the AirPods Pro design. In your ears, they will look a lot like AirPods Pro, but out of your ears you will notice that the speaker components look like Normal AirPods. These upcoming AirPods also include the same shanks that can be compressed as AirPods Pro with playback controls.

52audio notes that these new AirPods maintain the same Apple H1 chip that second generation AirPods currently have. They also will not have noise cancellation or transparency mode. The battery life is expected to be the same as the current AirPods, which means that you can expect about 5 hours of playback. The new smaller case will continue to store up to 24 hours of battery life.

AirPods themselves have new proximity sensors that surround the small speaker. They are similar to AirPods Pro, but are not as long. Additional sensors appear at the bottom of AirPods as in AirPods Pro.

To make a long story short, these new AirPods combine the universal fit of standard AirPods with the shorter stem and playback controls of AirPods Pro. They are primarily a visual upgrade to standard AirPods, making them more modern, rather than technological, without active noise cancellation, transparency mode and interchangeable tips.

We expect these new AirPods to be launched later this month, potentially during the supposed event of March 23. Are you excited about the new AirPods? Let us know in the comments below!
