New Braunfels Utilities officials say they plan to make a ‘one-time adjustment’ to all customer accounts after the winter storm

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – New Braunfels Utilities employees announced on Sunday that they plan to make a “one-time adjustment” to all customer accounts after the winter storm.

According to a statement from the utility group, residential and commercial accounts will be adjusted once to “help and assist” customers who may have higher accounts due to freeze-related leaks or exceptionally high use of tap drip, the to prevent damage to property.

“Our customers had to go through unthinkable difficulties due to this extreme weather event,” said Ian Taylor, NBU’s CEO, in a statement. “We understand your concerns and we want to do everything we can to help our community, lessening the impact of your next bill.”

According to Taylor, the financial impact of the winter storm on customers in the New Braunfels area has not been “fully calculated”, but it can be considerable.

The utility group said it experienced an unusually sharp increase in fuel costs and that the impact of the storm will continue “for the foreseeable future”.

Although fuel charges are typically passed on to customers, NBU is seeking “all the financing tools within our reach to distribute the financial impact over the years,” the utility group said in a statement. “Distributing costs, if approved, will minimize the impact on customer accessibility, which is important, since everyone in our community and beyond has already gone through a very difficult time.”

In addition, the group said it also provides assistance with bills and payment plans to help those who have difficulty paying their bills.
