Nerf is hiring a chief TikTok officer, and my inner teenager is drooling

When I was a child of the 90s, I used to dream of winning Nickelodeon’s Super Toy Run – five minutes to fill a Toys R Us shopping cart with everything I liked. I had my route all planned out: stacks of video games, a few sets of Lego, and then a supply in the Nerf corridor.

The world is very different now, of course, but Nerf may have just announced an adult, modern version of the dream: it’s hiring a TikTok director to dream up the company’s marketing for three months, giving a lucky influencer $ 30,000 and “A lot of Nerf products” in exchange for helping Hasbro figure out how to attract Generation Z.

Oh yes, this is definitively a marketing scam. But it’s also real work on the company’s real careers website, and you’ll have to submit a real job application and job interview if Hasbro likes what you have. You are expected to create 10 to 12 TikTok videos per month, meet weekly with Nerf’s marketing team and – unfortunately – are 18 or older to be hired.

It’s also completely remote, so you’ll be interfacing with Microsoft Teams, Zoom or whatever, instead of taking a tour of the labs or Nerf files. It’s not as much fun as it could be!

But still, a lot of fun. We hope this goes for a new face, not an established influencer! If you are chosen, we love to hear what it was like afterwards. My DMs are open.

We will miss you.
