The Central Committee of the Republican Party of North Carolina is expected to censor Sen. Richard Burr, RN.C., on Monday night for his impeachment vote – making him the latest Republican to face the state’s reaction after breaking up with former President Donald Trump.
Three committee members told the Carolina Journal that they expect the censorship resolution to pass.

“I fully support Senator Richard Burr, NC’s censorship for his vote to impeach President Trump,” wrote committee member Kyshia Lineberger on Facebook on Saturday. “Senator Burr did NOT vote for the will of the people and must be held responsible. This second impeachment is nothing more than a witch hunt against a former president who is now an ordinary citizen.”
The seven Republican senators who joined all Democrats to plead Trump guilty on the charge of inciting an insurrection were: Sens. Richard Burr of North Carolina, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania.

While some of the votes of other Republican senators were expected, Burr’s was a surprise. Burr said he will not seek re-election in 2022.

Burr is not alone in facing adverse reactions. The Louisiana Republican Party said on Saturday that it voted unanimously to censor Cassidy because of her vote. The central republican state committee is expected to consider at least eight separate resolutions to censor him when it meets next month.
Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham, RS.C., said Burr’s vote will make the former president’s daughter-in-law – Lara Trump – a shoe to win the 2022 Republican nomination to succeed Burr.
