Navy doctor shoots 2 people, then is shot and killed at a base in Maryland

A US Navy doctor shot and seriously injured two people in a business park in Frederick, Maryland, on Tuesday, officials said. Suspect sniper Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, 38, was later shot and killed at the US Army base in Fort Detrick.

The sniper opened a business at Riverside Tech Park, causing people to rush to safety, Police Chief Jason Lando told reporters on Tuesday. After the shooting, he said, the suspect drove about 10 minutes to Fort Detrick, where he was killed by the military.

“The public is no longer at risk,” said Lando. “There is no more cause for alarm in the Frederick community.”

The police received a call to an active sniper on Tuesday morning at the business park. When the police arrived, they discovered that two adult men had been shot and were in critical condition. The victims were flown to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The FBI, ATF Baltimore and the Maryland State Police are assisting the investigation.
