The long-running project comes from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, who co-wrote the screenplays for the films.
Disney + gave the green light to a series based on National treasure film franchise.
The show, by writers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley – who wrote the scripts for Nicolas Cage’s two films (along with Jim Kouf in the first film) – and producer Jerry Bruckheimer will follow a new set of characters and reinvent the franchise through the eyes of his main character, a 20-year-old DREAMer named Jess Morales.
Mira Nair (Monsoon wedding, a suitable boy) is attached to direct. The series will explore the ideas of identity, community, patriotism and whoever writes the story as Jess and a diverse group of friends embark on an adventure to discover their mysterious family history and recover a lost treasure.
