Naomi Judd said her daughter, actress Ashley Judd, “could have died” after an accident last month that left the artist with a shattered leg.
“It was very serious – she could have died,” 75-year-old “Ruby” actress told talk show host Kelly Clarkson on Thursday. “She is surviving. She is very brave. She cannot get out of bed [yet]. “
Ashley Judd, 52, suffered serious leg injuries when she tripped over a fallen tree during a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo in February, where she visited endangered bonobo monkeys.
It took the rescue teams about 55 hours to transport the “Double Jeopardy” actress across the DRC’s relentless terrain to South Africa, after Judd suffered internal bleeding and also intense nerve damage.

Judd is recovering back home, where his mother is taking care of her.
While joining the Kelly Clarkson Show, Naomi – a former nurse – said her daughter should have her stitches removed on Friday, but suggested to Andy Cohen last week that she could remove them herself when the time came. right.

“She lives next door, so I’m going to go up and get her stitches when we’re done. I was a nurse before I became a singer,” said Naomi, who is also the mother of country singer Wynonna, 56.
Wynonna recently told Page Six that she is also helping to care for her sister.
“I was researching how to wash the hair of someone lying in bed because she sent me a message: ‘Can you wash my hair?'” Wynonna told the outlet.
She continued: “This is where the work of an older sister resides. [Ashley] said: ‘I have a request. Can you wash my hair? ‘I said,’ Sure, ‘so I’m looking for ways to wash someone’s hair while lying down. “
Judd also provided concerned fans with an update on her condition earlier this month and thanked the medical staff who cared for her.

“I don’t understand why what happened. I understand that I was loved and helped enormously. I understand that nights are a wild agony,” she began. “Now, I am in the midst of a chain of friends and family, too numerous to mention, who have taken me into their prodigious arms in this dizzying fall.”
“They do for me what I can’t do for myself – prepare meals, wash my hair and also offer deep spiritual direction and the comfort of trying to start creating an arc of meaning and purpose,” she continued. “They also offer and meet my need for peace. I am lost and they are my shepherd’s staff.”
