Monster Hunter Stories 2 arrives on PC in July

Capcom has brought good news for Monster Hunter fans who play on the PC. The next Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin will be released on PC in July, simultaneously with the release of the Nintendo Switch. Don’t go sharpening your blades yet, this is the Monster Hunter spinoff, where you’ll befriend giant monsters instead of hunting them down. See, look at that player and Pukei-Pukei in harmony. They are friends, in some way. Oh, and Wings Of Ruin will have a cooperative mode for your true friends as well.

“Incubate, create and live alongside monsters like a Monster Rider in this fun-filled RPG set in the Monster Hunter universe,” said Capcom. “Our epic tale begins with the massive disappearance of Rathalos from all over the world. At the beginning of the story, you meet a Wyverian girl who met her illustrious grandfather, Red. She received an egg, but what’s in it?”

There are no points to guess that it is a Rathalos egg before watching the new trailer here.

Wings Of Ruin will make you bond with monsters – they are called “monsties” here – which you will recognize if you have participated in monster hunting in the past. There is Legiana, Anjanath, Pukei-Pukei and that terribly boring Kulu-Ya-Ku, among others. It’s essentially Pokémon with How To Train Your Dragon in my mind.

Capcom said there will also be a cooperative component for up to four players, where you can join friends for missions.

My two cents is that it will be good to do a little bit of riding a monster instead of hunting monsters. I just sank my teeth into a little Monster Hunter: World in the past, but I admit that I always get a little sad at the end of the hunts. Chasing these giant creatures that are trying to escape me and my relentless hunters is a little cruel. I will be much happier being their friend. Even Kulu-Ya-Ku.

It is good to see a MonHunt game coming to the PC simultaneously with the launch of the console. Monster Hunter: World was released for PC several months before the console versions. The next Monster Hunter Rise will be released on the Nintendo Switch later this month and is expected to launch on the PC early next year.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin will be released on July 9. It will be available on Steam, although it does not appear to have a store page open yet.
