Mitch McConnell proved he is even more craven than Ted Cruz

The Senate impeachment vote was difficult to swallow, with 43 Republicans voting to absolve Trump for the insurrection on his behalf, by people waving his flag. Even more joke-worthy was Senator Mitch McConnell’s speech later – blaming Trump for the would-be scam minutes after voting to release him.

“The most irritating statements to me were those from Mitch McConnells and Rob Portmans and Marco Rubios after they voted to absolve Donald Trump, basically saying, ‘Well, you know, the whole coup thing was kind of bad and I wish you wouldn’t have tried do that. And I wish a policeman hadn’t died. And you know, he made some bad choices. But you know, I had no choice, ‘”Tim Miller, writer-general for The bulwarksays Molly Jong-Fast in the latest issue of The New Abnormal.

But of course, McConnell and his team did have a choice. The House rejected Trump on January 13. The Senate decided to take a vacation, instead of taking the case immediately. And as soon as the holidays ended and Biden took an oath, they decided, against all motives and precedents, that a former officer like Trump could not be convicted.

“For Mitch McConnell to be like, ‘I really wanted to do this, but …’ Bullshit. The only reason you didn’t do it was because of you. It’s annoying. Give me a hundred [militia-friendly Rep.] Lauren Boberts – who are too stupid to know it was bad, or Ted Cruzes – who are sociopaths – about Mitch McConnell, trying to tell me that he has some feelings about it. Give me a break, ”says Tim.

Also on the show: Rep. Andy Kim tells Molly what it’s like to be the rare Democrat representing a district in Trumpy. Molly gives an update on the status of Project Lincoln. And Tim continues to insist on McConnell.
