Mira Furlan dead: ‘Babylon 5’ and ‘Lost’ actress dies at 65

Mira Furlan, best known for her roles as Minbari Ambassador Delenn in Babylon 5 and Danielle Rousseau in Lost, died at age 65.

Furlan died of undisclosed causes on Wednesday. His death was confirmed the following night in Twitter. Just after, Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski shared a moving tribute.

“It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had traveled the path where we cannot reach it,” wrote Straczynski. “But, as with all things, we will achieve it over time, and I believe it will have many stories to tell us and many new roles to share with the universe.”

The compliment continues, reading in part: “Mira was a good and kind woman, an impressive and talented performer and a friend of everyone in the cast and crew of Babylon 5, and we are all devastated by the news. The cast members she was especially close to since the end of the show will need space to process this moment, so please be kind if they are indifferent for a while. We have already traveled this path very often, and it only gets more difficult ”.

Born in the former Yugoslavia, Furlan emigrated to the United States in 1991, just a year before she achieved her star role as Delenn in Babylon 5. But she was already a talented actress at that time, having worked in theater, cinema and television in her home country. In 1985, she played Ankica Vidmar in the film When the father was traveling on business, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film.

Six years later Babylon 5, Furlan made his debut as scientist Danielle Rousseau at ABC Lost, and appeared in 20 episodes over six seasons. Additional TV credits include episodes of NCIS, Law & Order: Los Angeles and Just add magic.

Furlan leaves her husband, director Goran Gajić, and his son, Marko.

All five seasons Babylon 5 go to HBO Max on Tuesday, January 26th.
