Microsoft releases native Visual Studio M1 code for application development

Microsoft’s application development software, Visual Studio Code, has been updated to work natively on the Apple Silicon M1.

“We are happy to announce our first release of stable Apple silicon builds [with] this iteration, “says Microsoft in a blog post about Visual Studio Code 1.54.1.” Mac users with M1 chips can now use the VS Code without Rosetta emulation and will experience better performance and longer battery life when running the VS Code.

Microsoft thanks “the community for staying with Insiders [test] build “and how they were” reporting problems early in the iteration. ”

By default, the download of the macOS edition of Visual Studio Code gets a universal version that contains the Intel and Apple Silicon code. However, Microsoft has also made available “architecture-specific builds for Intel or Apple Silicon, which are smaller downloads compared to the Universal package”.

It has been three months since the first Apple Silicon Macs were shipped and eight months since the Developer Transition Kit was launched. Developers are constantly converting their applications to take advantage of the M1 processor, but there is still a considerable way to go.
