With the free agency starting in a week, Buffalo defense defender Micah Hyde has developed a recruiting camp.
The 30-year-old has been playing for the Bills since 2017 and has just signed a $ 19.25 million two-year extension with the club to keep him under contract until 2023. During a video conference late last week about the signing, Hyde shared his opinion of former free agents who didn’t even have Buffalo on their radar.
“They are going to visit me and I say, ‘Hey man, come to Buffalo.’ They said, ‘I’m fine. I’m going somewhere else, ‘”said Hyde, via Matt Parrino of NewYorkUpstate.com. “Well, do you know what? At the end of the day, I bet they are very upset that they did not take those visits to Buffalo. Now they are probably sitting on your garbage team or sitting on the couch somewhere else because they didn’t come to Buffalo. “
Bills went 13-3 in 2020, beating AFC East for the first time since 1995 and advancing to the AFC Championship Game for the first time since 1993. With the team returning to its core in 2021, Buffalo is ostensibly a solid destination for free agents who want a chance to win.
But Hyde says the city itself must be a draw.
“There are a lot of guys who think Buffalo is the old Buffalo, not winning and everything. It is disrespectful because the city is an incredible city. The team and the organization are incredible, ”said Hyde. “At the end of the day, we’re trying to win football games, and if you don’t want to be in Buffalo, don’t come. … If I manage to finish my career in Buffalo, that is the final plan. “
