Metallica has not yet played the big game, although there have been petitions launched in the past for them to play the halftime ceremony. Many thought that this could happen in 2016, when San Francisco hosted the Super Bowl, but the band ended up playing the show “The Night Before” for CBS Radio, exchanging the difficult terrain for a spot in the outside field of AT&T Park in San Francisco .
