In February, Lexus announced that its V8 engine was not yet dying. The 2022 IS 500 F Sport Performance filled the brand’s V8-shaped hole, and the resulting car looked like an absolute winner. But now the brand is taking it a step further with its limited release edition, which launched on Friday.
Now, it is important to note that this limited race vehicle is not enormously different from what the production model will become. But the adjustments that this has made for this 500 car race are beautiful and really show the impact that a handful of adjustments can have on a car. And we, lucky ducks here in North America, will be the only ones to have the opportunity to buy this model.
The main difference here is the external color scheme, which is called Incognito. This shade of gray will be exclusive to the launch edition, and although I’m not normally a big fan of soft car shades, this color is really cool. I really don’t know how to describe it. It’s almost matte in the way it absorbs light, but it still retains a beautiful, shiny reflection that kind of makes me think you could see your face reflected in it. Sits somewhBetween a more traditional gray and white. And because it is a dull color on paper, it translates perfectly into photos. I heard that it is even better in real life.

Here are the specs and some of the big changes:
- 472 horsepower, 5.0-liter V8 with 395 pound-feet of torque
- 19 inch matte black and seven spokes BBS Wheels
- Black and gray ultrasuede to trim the seats, doors, and center console
- ssilver gray wood trim on steering wheel
- Serialized board on the dashboard showing your car
These models do not yet have a price tag, but are due to be launched later this year, probably in the fall.
Now, all Lexus needs to do is learn the value of a simplified name.
