McDonald’s will launch three chicken sandwiches in February, while trying to reach new customers with more birds on its menu.

From February 24, consumers will be able to buy the crispy chicken sandwich, the spicy chicken sandwich and the deluxe chicken sandwich.

The fast-food giant began testing Crispy Chicken Sandwich in Houston and Knoxville, Tennessee, almost a year ago. The sandwich features a fried chicken fillet served on a buttered potato roll, topped with butter and pickles. The spicy version comes with a hot pepper sauce, while the deluxe sandwich comes with more toppings: chopped lettuce, Roma tomatoes and mayonnaise.

In November, executives told investors they would increase the number of items on the chicken menu because the category is growing faster than beef. While the new chicken sandwiches are only part of that strategy, US President Joe Erlinger said at the time that the new options will help consumers look at McDonald’s differently.

In recent years, privately held Chick-fil-A has overtaken other restaurant chains and has become the third largest in the United States in sales, behind only Starbucks and McDonald’s. Its chicken-focused menu has attracted new consumers as it has expanded beyond its base in the south and increased competition with McDonald’s.

Other rivals have succeeded in challenging Chick-fil-A with a chicken sandwich, especially Popeyes. Since the item’s launch nearly a year and a half ago, Restaurant Brands International has reported double-digit sales growth in the same store every quarter, despite the coronavirus pandemic.

McDonald’s shares, which have a market value of $ 162 billion, fell 2% in the morning trading session. The stock ended 2020 with an increase of 8%.
