If you ask the question, “Which automaker makes the best cars?” you’re opening a big, messy can of worms. What better defines? Is it speed? Produce quality? Comfort? And who decides what is best: car enthusiasts, soccer moms or algorithms? Well, after some rigorous testing, Consumer reports believes he has the answer: Mazda.

While not infallible, the CR has a fairly decent reputation for doing impartial and thorough testing. This is not just a reviewer saying that the car is good. The score assigned to each brand reflects four different factors:

  • The CR road test that analyzes over 50 different areas of performance.
  • Predicted reliability based on problems that have been identified in 17 different areas.
  • Owner satisfaction based on which CR members say.
  • Security standards – you earn more points if you have proven security features in all finishes, not just the most sophisticated.

For this analysis, CR also examined how many green options the automaker offers, which served as a small bonus.

And after all that, Mazda came in first, taking the title of best car maker Porsche. Here are the top five:

  1. Mazda
  2. BMW
  3. Subaru
  4. Porsche
  5. Honda

I don’t know about you, but I was very shocked to see BMW’s rating so high – she jumped six seats from 2020 to 2021 to secure its second place.

And yes, I can’t let you go without pointing the worst. In this list, number one represents the worst car in CR’s analysis:

  1. Alfa Romeo
  2. Land Rover
  3. Mitsubishi
  4. Jeep
  5. Lincoln

I was also really fascinated by the fact that Genesis was largely responsible for this entire disaster, losing 13 places between 2020 and 2021 to finish 15th. The results of the road tests for the Genesis machines were great, but they really suffered in the reliability department this time.

If you want more information about how the classification was conducted, you will have to go to Consumer reports.
