A six-year-old boy died after being attacked by a dog in Hampton County, South Carolina.
Police officers responded to a call about a child being attacked by a dog in Brunson on January 20, Hampton County sheriff’s office said in a press release.
“On Wednesday afternoon, deputies from the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Mullins Ford Road in Brunson regarding a young man being attacked by a dog,” the officers said.
“When police arrived at the scene of the incident, they located the 6-year-old boy who was dead. Hampton County Animal Control also responded to the scene.
“The dog, a Pitbull breed, was located shortly after, seized by Hampton County Animal Control and was euthanized. The case was handed over to SLED [SC Law Enforcement Division]. “
The incident is being investigated by the authorities.
“It is very unfortunate and very sad and our thoughts and prayers are with the family right now,” Preston Altman, assistant to the Hampton County coroner, told the WTOC.

Other serious attacks by dogs have occurred in recent weeks. Earlier this month, a Kentucky man said he was “very upset” after being surrounded and attacked by three pit bull dogs while walking in Louisville’s Shawnee Park.
David Weaver, 62, suffered injuries to his entire body, including face, back and lower torso, and was hospitalized after the unprovoked incident.
The man said his hands were mutilated as he tried to fight the dogs, who surrounded and attacked him from all angles.
“You can see [injuries] on my face, on the side of my face, on my back, you know, on my ass. Some really good cuts on my leg and, you know, I even have some scratches on my private parts. So I was really upset, “said Weaver.
In another incident, a 10-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in Oklahoma after being attacked and bitten by her neighbor’s dogs.
The child needed stitches after suffering injuries to the head, back, arms and legs and was treated for several punctures in the body after the incident, which took place at a Oklahoma City home.
The victim said she was attacked by a pack of seven dogs after they escaped her neighbor’s yard. The girl screamed for help and a local tree cutter rushed to the scene to get the animals off her.
“One of them bit me and everyone started to bite me. They were biting my face, my head,” she said.
