Martha Stewart faces negative reaction for obtaining the COVID vaccine

“I am in the approved age group for this batch of vaccines and I waited in line with others.”

Martha Stewart received the COVID vaccine yesterday at the holistic care center that opened two years ago in New York. She decided to share the news in an Instagram post, alongside a video of herself taking the photo.

Now, it is important to note that Martha is 79 years old and, until yesterday, people over 65 in New York are eligible to receive the vaccine. So Martha was perfectly within her rights to take the picture … but many commentators on Instagram were irritated by it nonetheless.

“I think the rich come first,” wrote one commentator. “I like it and have been with you for over 30 years, but that’s not [right]. “

“How the hell is Martha considered the front line ???” another commenter asked himself.

Several commentators noted that Martha was able to receive the vaccine before vulnerable members of their families:

And some health professionals in the comments shared that they still haven’t been able to get the vaccine:

Basically, people had a lot of questions about how Martha managed to get the vaccine so early and they pointed out her privilege as a likely factor. (I mean, she was vaccinated at a medical center literally with her name, so there is almost certainly some truth to that argument.)

Well, Martha has already addressed these criticisms in the caption of her post.

“I am very proud and grateful to the doctors, nurses and medical staff who are dealing with the bureaucracy and confusion of distributing these very important vaccines,” wrote Martha. “I am excited to have received my dosage and am looking forward to the boost.”

“Doctors told me that 10,000 orders were received by Mount Sinai shortly after the state released this batch of vaccines. We appreciate the advancement of science and a sincere thanks to those who work with the vaccines. We all hope for an end to this pandemic.”

And Martha ended her message by replying to those who hinted that she “skipped the line” when she was shot.

“To allay your concerns about having crossed the line, know that I am in the approved age group for this batch of vaccines and have waited in line with others.”
