In tweets made during the Senate impeachment trial on Tuesday of former President Donald Trump, in which he is accused of inciting the January 6 uprising, Republican MP Marjorie Taylor Greene said the insurrectionists were not really Republicans or Trump supporters, but only anti-government.
To support her argument, she said the rebels tried to impede Congressional Republicans’ efforts to challenge Biden’s electoral victory.
“If the # Jan6 the organizers supported Trump, so why did they attack us while contesting the polling station votes for Joe Biden? The attack RUINED our objection, which we spent weeks preparing for, which devastated our efforts on behalf of Trump and his constituents. “

Greene, whose support for violent extremist conspiracy theories recently caused the Democratic-led House to remove her from influential committee functions, mentioned that members of Congress from both parties hid in fear during the unrest, around which time bombs were also placed at the headquarters of the Republican and Democratic National Committees.
“They were NOT aimed at just one party. They were targeting Republicans and Democrats. They were against the government ALL together,” wrote Green in another tweet.
“The attack on the Capitol was planned and organized, NOT prompted by President Trump at the time, and NO Republican members were involved. ALL of us were victims that day. And, again, Trump is the victim of the witch hunt fueled by endless hatred. “Greene continued.
She then wrote that the impeachment trial was a Democratic “circus” aimed at brainwashing and distracting the masses of Democratic policies by being “quickly forced into effect” in order to destroy American lives and “steal our freedoms” .

Despite Greene’s claim that the insurrectionists were just anti-government protesters, several arrested protesters said they were acting under Trump’s orders to overturn an allegedly rigged election.
On January 6, when the two chambers of Congress met to certify the victory of the now President Joe Biden’s Electoral College, Greene voted against certifying the results. In a December 30 tweet, she wrote: “I refuse to certify a stolen election. It is the duty of Congress to ensure the integrity of our elections. On January 6, #FightForTrump. “
Trump’s own electoral security agency, his Department of Justice and more than 60 lawsuits involving judges he appointed said there was no evidence of widespread electoral fraud that “stole” his election.
Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger of Illinois became a vocal critic of Greene, accusing his rhetoric of inspiring anti-government insurrectionists.
In previous comments by Greene on social media, she defended violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and former President Barack Obama, accused former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of cutting a child’s face and using it and said that Obama created the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals naturalization program for immigrants to rape children and extract their organs.
Last week, Greene announced that he had renounced his beliefs in QAnon, the conspiracy theory that Democratic and Hollywood elites run a satanic and cannibal network of international pedophile sex trafficking that Trump threatened to expose. However, in a February 1 tweet, she referred to all of Trump’s opponents as “pedos”.
Newsweek contacted Greene’s office for comment.
