Mardi Gras arrives in Barcelona to prepare the transatlantic crossing

The latest addition to the Carnival Cruise Line, Carnival, arrived in Barcelona this morning at 08:00 CET. This will be the last stop for the most anticipated ship of 2021 before she arrived in the United States. Carnival you will probably stay in Barcelona until tomorrow, after which you will embark towards Port Canaveral.

Second technical stop for Mardi Gras

After the Meyer-Turku shipyard delivered it to Finland on December 18, Mardi Gras has been slowly moving south.

The vessel made a technical stop at the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands, on December 22nd. This stop was the first stop of the ship and, fortunately for the Dutch, they had every opportunity to see it when it was moored in the city center. Here the ship received LNG and provisions, while the crew changes were also carried out.

The port scale of Barcelona will have the same characteristic as Rotterdam and Barcelona are the only two cruise ports in Europe that can supply LNG ships. Carnival will be receiving LNG, provisions and undergoing crew changes before leaving on his first transatlantic voyage. Due to crew movement restrictions, the line is forced to make these changes before reaching the USA.

One of the most technically advanced ships at sea, Carnival it is equipped with four medium speed LNG engines that will work in the port and at sea. The ship can operate for two weeks between refills.

The departure tomorrow means that the ship will be in motion for at least another 10 days before it arrives in the USA, as it has about 4,300 nautical miles to cover. For those who wish to receive Carnival at the port on its first stop at its port of origin, Carnival will soon confirm the date, so keep checking.

The first cruise will be in three months

After many postponements Carnival already experienced in the last 12 months, it is no surprise that the first cruise of the vessel has been postponed to April 24, 2021.

Carnival will embark on its first Caribbean cruises from Carnival’s new Terminal 3 in Port Canaveral, Florida, on April 24, 2021. It was originally scheduled to debut on August 31, 2020 in Copenhagen. Marking an eight-month delay due to the Corona pandemic.
