Marcus Rashford launches candid appeal after alleged kidnapping and murder of Sarah Everard

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has made a sincere call for men to play a bigger role in helping women feel safe.

Rashford turned to social media to offer his condolences to Sarah Everard’s family.

Everard disappeared on March 3 and the Metropolitan Police confirmed on Friday that human remains found in the forest in Ashford, Kent, belonged to the 33-year-old marketing executive.

Rashford responded to the “moving” news, describing it as “it should never have happened” and telling male followers that they have an important role to play.

“This is heartbreaking, I’m sorry,” he tweeted.

“This should never have happened. Men, we have a role to play.

“Listening, protecting and allowing women to feel safe at any time of the day. I have sisters, nieces … just awful. I’m sending my regards to Sarah’s family. “

Rashford received an MBE last year after his successful campaign on free educational resources during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 23-year-old continued to use his platform to promote positive changes in society among his 4.2 million Twitter followers.

Rashford missed Manchester United’s clash with AC Milan on Thursday night in the Europa League due to an ankle injury.

He limped in the Manchester classic last week, but coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not exclude him from Sunday’s clash with West Ham at Old Trafford.

“He is a fit boy, he is athletic, he is recovering well, we did not have many reasons to rest him,” Solskjaer told MUTV.

“He took a blow to the ankle that made it impossible for him to be part of the team, I hope this weekend, but we don’t know.”
