Hospitals across the U.S. are being flooded with COVID-19 patients, as the number of people admitted to intensive care units reaches alarming levels, new data show.
On Monday, 129,748 people were treated at hospitals for the virus, according to the COVID Screening Project.
It marked the 41st consecutive day that hospitalizations for COVID-19 exceeded 100,000.
The online tracker located critical hospitalization points across the country.
“These record levels of hospitalization are not evenly distributed: as hospitalizations in the midwest and west mountains continue to fall, they have increased in California and across the southern US, “said the project.
The maps showed that several regions – particularly in Southern California and Arizona – have COVID-19 patients occupying more than 45% of their ICUs.
Golden State hospitalizations have reached worrying levels, with more than 22,633 coronavirus patients, of whom about 4,971 are in the ICU, the data show.
The COVID Tracking Project said that “Arizona hospitalizations have far exceeded the state’s summer peak and continue to grow every day.”
The Grand Canyon state has about 4,997 people hospitalized for the virus, with about 1,158 in the ICU, according to the data.
The worrying numbers come as the country records 1,739 virus-related deaths and more than 194,000 new infections, the data show.
