Democrats created the disturbing video that documents the January 6 siege, intertwining Trump’s speech to a group of supporters who call on them to march on Capitol Hill with violent images of the attack.

“We are going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue … and we are going to the Capitol and we are going to try to give our Republicans, the weak … we are going to try to give them the kind of pride and boldness they need to retake our country,” says Trump in the video.

The video follows the crowd down Pennsylvania Avenue and enters the building, where lawmakers gathered to certify the electoral college’s vote count.

The video shows new footage of the pro-Trump crowd shouting “take the Capitol”, engaging in violent clashes with police and damaging the building while flooding the corridors, trying to disrupt the vote count.

The text at the end of the video says: “At least seven people lost their lives, more than 140 police officers suffered physical injuries and many more were severely affected by their experiences that day.”

The video shows the text of a tweet that Trump sent four hours later:

“These are the things and events that happen when a sacred overwhelming electoral victory is so unceremoniously and cruelly withdrawn from great patriots who have been treated badly and unfairly for so long. Go home with love and in peace. Remember this day forever! ”

Raskin opened the impeachment trial by arguing that a failure to convict would create a “January exception” that absolves all future presidents of illegal conduct.

Raskin criticized Trump’s lawyers, who plan to argue that it is illegal to prosecute a former president for impeachment.

“Their argument is that if you commit a crime in the last few weeks of your term, you will have constitutional impunity and get away with it,” said Raskin. “This would create a new January exception to the United States Constitution … it is an invitation to the president to do his best in anything he wants to do on his way out the door, including the use of violent means. … to block the peaceful transfer of power … is an invitation to our founder’s worst nightmare. “
