A man tragically died during a taco contest in the central California valley – and now, his son wants the owner of the organization that organized him to pay.
Marshall Hutchings is suing Fresno Sports and Events – the company that owns the junior league baseball team Fresno Grizzlies – for hosting what he calls an inherently dangerous amateur taco-eating competition at Chukchansi Park in 2019 … during which his father died .
In the documents, obtained by TMZ, Hutchings states that his father, Dana, was not warned or informed about the risks involved in devouring as much food as possible in a short period of time … and, as a result, began to choke on the “chewed and non-chewed” taco leftovers.
Hutchings says people tried to save him with CPR and a defibrillator, before paramedics arrived to take Dana to the hospital … where he was pronounced dead.
Hutchings says that FS&E had nothing to do with hosting an event like that with newbies – because he says that eating professional food is a serious business and requires preparation and training on the part of the participants … insisting that ordinary Joes are not equipped to compete safely. To make a long story short, Hutchings says the event was very dangerous and that the company did not take the appropriate measures to manage it – which ended up costing a life.
Hutchings is suing for manslaughter and asking a judge to award him greater compensation. Fresno Sports did not comment.
