Lucille Ball’s daughter Lucie Arnaz defends the cast of Nicole Kidman as a comedy icon

Lucie Arnaz defended the cast of Nicole Kidman as her mother Lucille Ball in an Aaron Sorkin film.

The rumors about Nicole sparked a flurry of online conversations about who would be best suited for the role, with Debra Messing signing for the role on Twitter.

However, Lucie, 69, posted a video on Facebook asking fans to ‘stop arguing about who should play – she doesn’t look like her, her nose isn’t the same, she’s not that funny’.

Lucie noticed that the audience was’ enthusiastically commenting on the casting choice that was not exactly announced, but kind of leaked out the other day by the press. And you know, it’s a closed deal, but the contracts weren’t really signed, which is why I didn’t say anything publicly about it.

She laughed and added: ‘But I felt I should at least try to calm the waters here. There seems to be a lot of discussion about Nicole Kidman. “” It must be Debra Messing! “” It should be Carole Cook! ‘I do not know.’

Debra relentlessly introduced herself to the role on Twitter last week amid news that Nicole was in talks to lead the cast of the photo.

She retweeted several of her fans who said she would be a better choice, citing her tribute to I Love Lucy in the final season of Will And Grace.

During the tribute, Debra dressed as Lucille’s sitcom character, Lucy Ricardo, to recreate some of her parts, including her ad for Vitameatavegamin and her failed attempts to work on the assembly line of a chocolate factory.

However, Lucie noted, ‘Here’s the thing – what you should understand. We’re not doing a remake of I Love Lucy. No one needs to impersonate Lucy Ricardo, or the Vitameatavegamin routine or the chocolate factory routine or any of those stupid things.

She declared: ‘It is the story of Lucille Ball, my real mother, not Lucy Ricardo, and her husband Desi Arnaz, my father, not Ricky Ricardo. There will be humor in the movie, but it’s a story of the two, and how they met, and what went well with finding the show, what went wrong – their relationship, their love affair. ‘

Lucie added: ‘Now of course there will be I Love Lucy in it. In fact, Aaron Sorkin put him on stage for a shoot, a week of rehearsal – rehearsing and filming the show – but all these other things happen during that time. Very little of the show is really I Love Lucy. ‘

To tell the truth: Lucie clarified that in the new film 'Nobody needs to impersonate Lucy Ricardo, nor the routine of Vitameatavegamin or the routine of the chocolate factory or any of the nonsense'

She continued: ‘I don’t think you will be disappointed with this, however. Aaron did a wonderful job of bringing these characters to life, and it’s just a little soup. It is a small slice of life on your journey. ‘

The showbiz legacy noted: ‘It is not the whole story. It is not a biographical film from the cradle to the grave. It is a two-hour feature film about these two people and some of the remarkable things they have experienced. ‘

She concluded her message by encouraging fans to ‘just trust us. It will be a good movie. And PS the voting is over. I love everything in you.’

Aaron Sorkin is writing and directing the next biopic Being The Ricardos for Amazon, following his streaming success with The Trial Of The Chicago 7 for Netflix.

While Nicole is considered the choice for Lucy, Javier Bardem is in negotiations for the role of her husband and co-star Desi Arnaz, Deadline reported last week.

Desi, who played Lucy’s band leader husband Ricky Ricardo on his show, had a tumultuous marriage to her in real life.

She filed for divorce for the first time in 1944, allegedly because of her betrayal and drinking, but they met again before they finally parted in 1960.

In the meantime, they produced two children and the comedy that transformed them into TV legend, which lasted from 1951 to 1957.

They also starred in films together during the wedding, including Forever, Darling and the comedy Vincente Minnelli, The Long, Long Trailer.

Despite the divorce, in which she called the marriage a “nightmare”, Lucy and Desi remained publicly friendly for the rest of their lives.

Lucy married comedian Gary Morton of Borscht Belt in 1961 and stayed with him until his death in 1989, while Desi married Edith Hirsch in 1963.

Edith and Desi died of cancer a year apart – she died in 1985 and her husband, who loved cigars from his native Cuba, succumbed to lung cancer in 1986.

Aaron Sorkin’s new biopic is about a single last week doing an episode of I Love Lucy, during which Lucy and Desi’s marriage is shaken.

The turbulent week, reportedly running from the table read for recording in front of a studio audience, includes a professional land mine for the couple as well.
