London officer arrested in disappearance of young man

A London police officer was arrested on Tuesday for the disappearance of a young woman who disappeared in the city about a week ago.

The Metropolitan Police said they arrested one of them in connection with the case of Sarah Everard, who disappeared on March 3 after leaving a friend’s home.

The 33-year-old marketing executive was last seen that night, around 9:30 pm, through a doorbell camera in Clapham, southwest London, the BBC reported.

The policeman was arrested in a house in Kent, just outside London. A woman was also arrested on suspicion of helping a criminal, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin called the prison “a significant development” in the investigation and said authorities are doing everything they can to find Everard.

“We will continue to work quickly on this investigation,” said assistant commissioner Nick Ephgrave, “but the fact that the arrested man is a Metropolitan Police officer on duty is shocking and deeply disturbing.”

“I understand that there will be significant public concern, but it is essential that the investigation team has time and space to continue its work,” he added.
