LIVE UPDATES: All but 5 Republican senators vote to reject the impeachment trial

Senators took an oath in the former President Trump impeachment trial on Tuesday, while the Senate voted 55-45 to end the debate on Senator Rand Paul’s point of order, arguing that the impeachment trial is unconstitutional now that Trump is out of office.

Five Republican Party senators voted not to reject President Trump’s impeachment trial: Susan Collins, Maine, Lisa Murkowski, Alaska, Ben Sasse, Nebraska, and Pat Toomey, Pennsylvania, and Mitt Romney, Utah. They voted with all 50 Democratic senators to make the point of order.

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, who has indicated an open mind about whether Trump should be convicted, voted against ending the debate.
