Lincoln Project gives up impeachment trial targeting Republicans over Capitol riot

In the announcement, which lasts just over a minute, the anti-Trump GOP group calls for justice for officer Brian Sicknick, who died as a result of the Capitol rebellion.

“At the Capitol Rotunda, the remains of a brave man rest in a place of honor,” begins the video.

“He died a hero,” continues the announcement. “And now Brian Sicknick deserves justice.”

Sicknick died a day after the attack on Capitol Hill due to injuries he sustained while trying to protect the building and its occupants from the violent crowd. After his death, he received the rare distinction of lying in honor at the Capitol Rotunda.

The announcement blames Trump and his allies for inciting the riot that caused Sicknick’s death and several other injuries.

“The crowd that murdered him and wounded other Capitol Police officers was not stupid. He was sent there,” says the narrative in a Trump newscast speaking in plays.

“I don’t know if I will fight alone or if other people will,” says the former president in the clip.

The crowd was “fed a diet of lies” that resulted in the January 6 uprising, and now those who should be held accountable are “trying to escape responsibility,” the announcement alleges.

“They did not deliver the hundreds of blows that killed Brian Sicknick and injured his colleagues, but they did tell the lie that led his followers to act. The blood is on your hands ”, concludes the announcement.

The new announcement is one of many that The Lincoln Project has launched targeting Trump in recent months and comes as his impeachment trial continues in the Senate.
