One of the strangely enduring trends of recent years is “gaming phones”, designs that have been tuned (sometimes drastically) for mobile gaming performance. Lenovo made one with its gaming brand Legion last year and, according to a leak posted to Antutu’s Weibo account, it is back with another design. This is strange, even for a gaming phone.

The first Legion phone wasn’t exactly subtle, with a flashy rear style, a center-mounted camera module (so your hands don’t cover it when you’re playing) and a side-mounted pop-up selfie camera. The leaked photos of a second generation version seem to be even more bombastic: the entire central module is elevated with separate panels on both sides, giving it adhesions that vaguely resemble a Game Boy Advance. Unless my eyes deceive me, that center panel also has a tiny built-in cooling fan, something that other gaming phones reserve for an additional accessory.

The distinctive pop-up selfie camera is not visible on the back, but there is definitely something there on the side of the phone, as seen in the photo above. It seems to be a cosmetic change, as there is definitely no hole for a front camera anywhere on the screen. The stereo speakers appear to be intact and it appears that the “ultrasonic trigger buttons” are still in place, as well as the side-mounted USB-C port. Again, to the game.

The original Legion phone used a high-end processor, huge two-camera batteries that recharged at 90 watts and a 144 Hz screen with a 240 Hz touch sampling rate. Assuming these leaks are genuine and the phone hits the market , you can expect at least that, maybe with a few more new tricks.
