Las Vegas weather: Moderate rain is expected; possible snow in the western valley

Monday’s winter storm brought only traces of rain in the Las Vegas valley, but Mount Charleston received a few inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

There has been no measurable rain at McCarran International Airport or Henderson or North Las Vegas since 6:45 pm on Monday, said meteorologist Jenn Varian. Mount Charleston had received about two inches of snow.

In Las Vegas, Monday reached a maximum temperature of 53 degrees and the night low is forecast to 38, Varian said. Although there is a small chance of residual spatter during the night, the winter storm should have passed by the end of the night.

Daily highs are expected to remain in their 50s this week. Tuesday’s forecast is 56 and sunny, Wednesday and Thursday will be 54 and sunny, and Friday will be 56 and sunny. The midnight temperature on New Year’s Eve is forecast to 41, Varian said.
