Jenner posted a statement on Monday on her Instagram Stories, writing: “I feel it is important for me to clarify this false narrative that I asked fans for money and I’m not paying my makeup artist’s medical bills.”
“Sam is not my makeup artist and unfortunately we no longer have a personal relationship, but I worked with him a few years ago and I think he is the sweetest,” the statement said. “I saw my current makeup artist and friend Ariel post about Sam’s accident and his family’s GoFundMe and called Ariel right away to see what happened to Sam.”
GoFundMe’s initial target was $ 10,000, at which point Jenner donated $ 5,000, a source close to Jenner mentioned earlier to CNN. An account with Jenner’s name on GoFundMe shows a $ 5,000 donation.
Jenner also addressed this in his statement, writing: “They had already collected 6k, so I put 5k to achieve their original goal and thought about posting in my stories to gain more awareness if someone also felt compelled to share or donate.”
“I don’t know how it all got so distorted, but his family reached out through Ariel and is very grateful for all the donations, prayers and love for Sam,” the statement said. “Anyone who knows me knows that I do things from the heart and I try to be helpful whenever I can. Let’s all be positive and keep Sam, his family and anyone you know who is going through a difficult time in our prayers.”
CNN had sought out Jenner’s representatives before she posted her statement.
