The Los Angeles Kings announced they gave defender Matt Roy a significant increase, as the team extended it for another three years. The deal is worth $ 9.45 million with an AAV of $ 3.15 million. Roy would be a restricted free agent at the end of this season.

2021-22: $ 2M
2022-23: $ 3.25M
2023-24: $ 4.2 million
The 26-year-old was earning just $ 700,000 this year, the last year of his two-year bridge agreement that he signed in 2019. Upon signing a three-year pact, the Kings bought a UFA year, hence the significant increase.
Roy is the definitive success story.
Climbed in the seventh round of the 2015 draft after his first year at Michigan Tech, Roy had two more positive seasons in college before signing with the Kings in late 2017. He played two seasons with Ontario Reign at AHL before winning a promotion to Los Angeles in late 2019. He played 25 games for the Kings that year and won a full-time role immediately. Roy ended last season with four goals and 18 points, but most importantly, he carried a rating of over-16 on a weak LA team. This year, Roy has seven assists in 24 games, along with a score of two more, averaging 19:16 on ice time, third among Kings defenders, behind Drew Doughty and Michael Anderson.
