The 21c Museum Hotel in Lexington, Kentucky, unveiled its retro 1960s room inspired by The Queen’s Gambit on Wednesday – which is making reservations for fans and chess enthusiasts.

The Harmon Room has an artistic installation of a chess board on the bed that mimics the drug-induced visions that the orphan who became a chess prodigy Beth Harmon (Isla Johnston) has on Netflix’s hugely successful show.

Lexington becomes Beth’s hometown, and the room includes a guide to landmarks in the area featured in the seven-episode series based on the 1983 novel by Walter Tevis, a native of Lexington.

Modern furniture and accessories from the mid-century boutique hotel room were selected by interior designer Isabel Ladd, preservationist Lucy Jones and Alex K Mason of Ferrick Mason Inc.

“I have been collecting furniture from that time for the past three decades,” said Jones.

‘It is pure joy to bring the rich scenes of the page and the screen to life.’

Ladd added: ‘When I watched The Queen’s Gambit, I stopped and rewound just mesmerized by all the colors and patterns of the game.’

The time capsule echoed the many luxurious hotels where Beth (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her enterprising foster mother Alma Wheatley (Marielle Heller) stayed for the chess tournaments.

For a limited time, guests can play on the locally made chess board and admire the personalized chess-themed wallpaper called The Gambit of the Knight in the ‘immersive experience’.
