Keem Green moves from Nebraska

The South Carolina football team gains more depth in DL.

Over the weekend, former Nebraska defensive striker Jahkeem Green quietly signed his paperwork to play for his hometown program in the 2021 season. Green, originally from Sumter, SC, will have two years remaining in eligibility.

The hiring is great news for Shane Beamer and the South Carolina football team, as they continue to deepen their defense that lost a total of eight employees in the off season.

Green began his career at Highland Community College, where he became an important candidate for JUCO. He recorded 117 tackles over two seasons with the Scotties and was seen as a four-star talent in the 2019 class. Green originally pledged to play for the Gamecocks after that two-year period, but withdrew that commitment and signed with Nebraska.

The indoor striker would redshirt in 2019, appearing in just three games, before taking action in five games throughout the 2020 campaign. The 1.80 meter, 320-pound man received four tackles in those eight action games.

With COVID affecting the 2020 season, the year will not count against Verde in terms of eligibility. It will be immediately available to Gamecocks in 2021.

Green adds experience to a defensive line unit that remains the deepest and most talented of the Gamecocks on that side of the ball. He could immediately take into account nose rotation in scheme 4-2-5 by new coordinator Clayton White. The big man could end up being a big space hog, taking on double team assignments to create opportunities for guys on the second level.

With the addition, Gamecocks have now won five transfers in this off-season, four of which are on the defensive side of football. Green joins Ahmarean Brown (Georgia Tech), linebacker Darryl Williams (Delaware), cornerback David Spaulding (Georgia Southern) and defensive tip Jordan Strachan (Georgia State).

Shane Beamer also hired JUCO defensive quarterback Marcellas Dial and Isaiah Norris, who played for Georgia Military College last season.
