“I was very much denying what was going on.”

Do you know Katie Leung from Harry Potter film series, in which she played Cho Chang.

“I was, like, researching myself at one point, and I was on this site, which was kind of dedicated to the Harry Potter fan type,” Leung – who was casted for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when she was 16 – he remembered. “I remember reading all the comments. And yes, it was a lot of racist shit.”

Leung says he even found a “hate site” dedicated to her – but when she talked to advertisers about it, “I remember them saying, ‘Oh, look, Katie, we haven’t seen these, these sites that people are talking about. And you know, if anyone asks that, just say it isn’t true, say it isn’t happening. ‘”

“And I just shook my head. I was like, ‘Okay, okay’, even though I saw it with my own eyes. I was like, ‘Okay, yeah, I’m just going to say it’s all great.'”

Leung also said that she was “very fucking grateful” for being part of the film franchise, but that the position she was placed in was difficult in her own way: “I keep saying, like, ‘Oh, I wish I might have said something. ‘But you can’t do that. “

Weekly entertainment points out that this is not the first time that Leung talks about facing racist attacks because of his interpretation of Cho Chang: in a 2016 interview with The Herald, she said, “I can’t remember much about that part because I was so much denying what was going on.”

“I put it in the back of my mind. I don’t know if this is the best way to deal with it, but I did it naturally to move on and be a good actor.”
