“Katherine embodied the joy and energy that make surfing so special and dear to all of us, as the sport’s global ambassador,” said ISA of the surfer, whose brother, José Diaz, is president of the Salvadoran Surf Federation (FESASURF)
“She stood out in international competitions, representing her country with pride in both the ISA World Surfing Games and the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.
“We send our sincere condolences to the Katherine family, the surfers from El Salvador and all the members of the international surfing community whose lives she has touched.”
FESASURF, ISA and the National Sports Institute of El Salvador did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.
