Kansas City Chiefs technical assistant Britt Reid has applied for administrative leave amid accident investigations.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Kansas City Chiefs put outside linebacker technician Britt Reid on administrative leave after a three-week accident that left a 5-year-old girl in critical condition.

“We continue the process of gathering information about the incident and will continue to assist local authorities as requested,” said the chiefs in a statement. “Our focus remains on Ariel Young and his family. We reach out to the family to offer our support and resources to them during this difficult time and we will continue to pray for their recovery. ”

Reid, 35, the son of Chiefs coach Andy Reid, confessed to the police that he was driving the vehicle that collided with two other cars, including the one with the 5-year-old boy inside. The police report said the driver of that vehicle suffered non-fatal injuries and was being investigated for possible damage.

Andy Reid said this week that Britt Reid underwent surgery, but he was no more specific.

A Kansas City Police Department official said Britt Reid’s eyes were bloodshot and that the officer smelled “a moderate odor of alcohol,” according to a police statement obtained by ESPN. The statement went on to say that Reid told the officer that he drank two to three drinks and that he also took Adderall prescribed.

Britt Reid did not travel to Tampa, Florida, for the recent Super Bowl and did not train for the Chiefs in the 31-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
