Vice President Kamala Harris is facing an adverse reaction after laughing when a reporter asked if she planned to visit the southern border in the midst of the migration crisis.
“Kamala Harris laughs at a reporter who asked her if she had plans to visit the border. Don’t believe this government when they say they are serious about resolving this crisis,” wrote Representative Steve Scalise, R-La. Twitter on Tuesday.
“What exactly is funny about that?” progressive activist Jordan Uhl wrote on Twitter.
Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, addressed Harris’s reaction on Fox News.
“Well, it is not to laugh, and I would like the vice president and the president to come to the border. I would be happy to welcome you there and so that they can learn what I have learned by talking to the experts, the Border Patrol , Health and Human Services, as well as local authorities and stakeholders who are bearing the brunt of this administration’s open borders policy, “he said on Tuesday.
“Apparently, the border crisis is now a laughing matter for the Biden government,” wrote Steve Guest, communications consultant to Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Twitter.
“Both Biden [and] Harris refused to visit the border because it is not a priority – apparently, it is just a laughing matter! Resolving the crisis they created is not a priority. Taking a trillion dollar political PR trip is more important to them, “wrote conservative analyst Paris Dennard in Twitter.
While answering questions from reporters outside Air Force One on Monday, Harris was asked if she had “plans to visit” the southern border as the immigration crisis continues to develop.

The vice president answered the question with a “not today” before laughing. She said that she had visited before and that she would probably come back.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki maintained the position of the Biden government during a news conference on Monday, referring to the border situation as a “circumstance” and saying that children fleeing persecution in their home countries “it is not a crisis”.

“Children who present themselves on our border who are fleeing violence, who are fleeing lawsuits, who are fleeing terrible situations are not a crisis,” said Psaki. “We feel that it is our responsibility to approach this situation with humanity and to ensure that they are treated and placed in safe conditions.”
