Thomas apologized for the incident, which took place at a PGA Tour tournament in Hawaii last Saturday.
“There is no excuse,” Thomas told the Golf Channel in an airy apology immediately after his round.
“While we recognize that he apologized and acknowledged the severity of his words, he is a paid ambassador for our brand and his actions conflict with the inclusive culture that we strive to uphold,” said a statement from the corporation.
Thomas uttered the slander after losing a putt pair during the third round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii and his words were picked up by television microphones.
“I am an adult. I am a grown man. There is absolutely no reason for me to say something like this. It is terrible. I am extremely ashamed. I am not the type of person I am … But unfortunately I did it and I have to confess it and I’m very sorry. I deeply apologize to everyone and anyone I offended and I’m going to get better because of that, ”said Thomas in his apology.
A former world No. 1, Thomas is now third in the golf ranking.
“In making this decision, our hope is that Mr. Thomas will do the hard and necessary work to partner with us again – truly examining this incident, learning, growing and ultimately using his platform to promote inclusion,” said communicated.
The PGA Tour also spoke about this incident. “As he expressed after his round, we agreed that Justin’s comment was unacceptable,” said the PGA Tour in a statement according to the AFP news agency, which added that Thomas would likely be fined for “improper conduct for a professional”.
