Jessica Walter’s best ‘Arrested Development’ moments

Hollywood lost another legend in the form of Jessica Walter.

The actress died at the age of 80 in New York on Wednesday.

She worked in Hollywood in the early 1960s and has accumulated several awards along the way, but her most well-known role was as Lucille Bluth in “Arrested Development”.

Walter appeared on all five seasons of the popular sitcom, aired on FOX from 2003 to 2006, before transferring to Netflix for two final seasons.

Here’s a look at Walter’s best moments as the money-obsessed, sharp-tongued matriarch Lucille Bluth:

Lucille was a comic force in “Arrested Development”, but one line, in particular, has already been immortalized in the form of a popular meme.

In explaining his frustration with his youngest son, Lucille has a 1994 flashback, watching an announcer share a story about a young mother who dropped her car in a lake because “she couldn’t take it anymore”.

Among Lucille’s many qualities was his lack of awareness outside his own bubble, like not knowing who Jimmy Kimmel was.

In a conversation with his son, Michael – played by Jason Bateman – Lucille reveals that he sent another son to war when he was “confronted” by Michael Moore “in front of the entire country”.

Her son explains that it was not Moore, but just a double and, instead of being in front of the whole country, the joke was just a little bit for Kimmel’s talk show.

“I don’t know who it is, and I don’t mind finding out,” she said brusquely.

Having once had a lot of money, Lucille developed a refined taste, which is why she was not terribly happy to stop at a restaurant called Klimpy’s, but her low blood sugar required it.

When she ordered “Ike and Tina Tuna”, a waitress asked Lucille if she would like a “plate or platter”.

The Bluth family’s wealth also presumably kept them away from any kind of physical work, including working with cattle – which would explain why no one can imitate a chicken.

When Lucille’s son Michael asks why his family thinks he is afraid to invite a woman on a date, his father says, “Because you are a chicken. You are a chicken!”

He begins to coo like a bird and dance, trying to imitate a chicken and when Lucille joins the fun, waving his arms slightly, it becomes apparent that the Bluths don’t know how a chicken acts.

Lucille was able to defend herself against almost everyone in “Arrested Development” and never let anyone pressure her.

When two of her children were discussing whether to keep a boat called Seaward, she joined the conversation.

Confusing the name of the boat with the term “word with c”, she replies: “I will leave when I am well and ready.
