Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post ignores Amazon’s decision to remove transgender book

A controversial decision by online retail giant Amazon, billionaire Jeff Bezos, to remove a best-selling book was not released by his newspaper, the Washington Post.

The Washington Free Beacon noted on Friday that the Post had not covered the decision made by its sister company to remove a best-selling book that the newspaper previously characterized as anti-transgender.

Author Ryan T. Anderson said this week that his book, “When Harry became Sally: Responding to the transgender moment,” was removed from Amazon. The decision caused a quick reaction, as critics pointed out that Amazon has a history of censoring books that do not match the company’s liberal political views.

Although the Washington Post did not cover Amazon’s decision to remove the book, it covered the same book in 2018 with a story titled: “Ryan Anderson’s book on trans people is creating an uproar.”

The three-year story said the book “does what some consider to be an inflammatory case against transgender people” because Anderson “argues that American society’s growing acceptance of transgenderism has more to do with ideology than science”.

“The current commotion about Anderson started when bloggers realized that” When Harry Became Sally “had shot to number one on two Amazon book lists – one on natural law and one on LGBT issues,” the Post reported at the time, noting that Bezos owned the newspaper and Amazon.

It is not clear why the Post covered the book before it was released, but did not inform readers that Amazon removed the book from its platform.

“We do not discuss our internal coverage plans and all editorial decisions are made regardless of the interests of any outside party or company,” a Post spokesman told Fox News.

“When Harry Became Sally” aimed to provide “thoughtful answers to the questions that arise from our transgender moment” and offered a “balanced approach to public policies on gender identity and a sober assessment of the human costs of interpreting human nature in a way wrong. “

An Amazon search for “When Harry Became Sally” on Monday does not find Anderson’s book, but suggests books with the opposite view, such as “The End of Gender: Debunking the Myths about Sex and Identity in Our Society”, ” Understanding Gender “Dysphoria: Navigating Transgender Problems in a Changing Culture” and “Let Harry Become Sally: Responding to the Anti-Transgender Moment”.
